DRAWING IN THE WOODS

dorset coppice woods.jpg

The Living Classroom (Norton Lane, Durweston, Blandford. DT11 0QE.)

is a very special place in a beautiful glade in the woods. It is a great opportunity to spend the day walking, looking and drawing in a very unique environment as there is no vehicle access to the site outside of specified dates and courses.

The Living Classroom is run by the Dorset Coppice Group. It comprises an area of approximately 30 acres of mixed, broadleaved woodland known as Bonsley Wood, together with a classroom, toilets, water and power.

This workshop is about using drawing as one of the best ways of seeing and absorbing visual information and learning new ways of expressing it. It is suitable for all levels of ability.

Woods and trees give an ever changing source of inspiration for drawing and no more so than in this beautiful location. We can walk a short path to where the Dorset Coppice Group burn their own charcoal and see how it is produced in a sustainable and more environmentally friendly way than mass produced charcoal.

By the end of the class you will have a creative collection of studies and ideas that you can use as inspiration for developing further work if you wish as well as some finished work.

Classes are very relaxed and are for all abilities. We can start inside the Living Classroom with the big double doors opening into the woods and then, weather permitting, work outside where  there are numerous beautiful places to sit and settle in. There will be plenty of help and tuition during the day.
All materials are provided. £75. Maximum 8 people

Teas and coffees supplied. Bring a packed lunch.

Projects include:

Drawing with a variety of natural and compressed charcoal

Drawing with rubbers and cloths into charcoal
