This workshop is all about ways of observing nature through different mark making. The class will consist of walking a route together, making observations and stopping to make quick sketches as well as more detailed studies using both traditional and experimental materials and tools.


This workshop is about using drawing as one of the best ways of seeing and absorbing visual information and learning new ways of expressing it. It is suitable for all levels of ability.


By the end of the class you will have a creative journal of your walk and a collection of studies and ideas that you can use as inspiration for developing further work if you wish.

Projects include:

Drawing with pencils, pens and charcoal.

Drawing with a rubber into charcoal

Experimenting with natural paintbrushes and drawing implements

Taking rubbings of found textures 

Making monotype prints.
